Like most Americans, I am tired of the inside-the-beltway shell game that prevents Americans from understanding what is being passed in Congress. I am committed to bringing openness to the process. Every bill must be published for at least 72 hours before a vote is taken on it, and it should be short enough so that it can actually be read and understood within that time frame. There is nothing that Congress needs to do that can't be broken into smaller pieces. Finally, bills should concern only a single topic. Miscellaneous bills should not be attached to others. I will work to ensure that only germane language is in each bill that comes to the floor.
