Colorado is gifted with some spectacular landscapes, but when our natural resources are not taken care of, our state as a whole suffers. With that in mind, I spent my Labor Day visiting with Colorado National Monument's superintendent and park crewmembers. We spoke about how best take care of the Monument's canyons and monoliths, and maintain its key role in sustaining Colorado's economy and ecological identity. As chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee's National Parks Subcommittee, I am particularly excited to see how funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is being invested in our national parks and the communities that live around them.
