Hoeffel Campaign on Specter Labor Hearing

PHILADELPHIA , PA - Celia Fischer, campaign manager for Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Joe Hoeffel, issued the following statement about Sen. Arlen Specter's hearing on funding for the AFL-CIO's Working for America Institute today:

"Arlen Specter may be holding a 'hearing' on funding with labor leaders today, but it's clear from his record that hearing isn't the same thing as doing. The fact is that Specter has a mere 46% voting record with the AFL-CIO, and his loyal support for the Bush-Cheney agenda has done real damage to working families in Pennsylvania .

"Specter supported fast-track trade negotiating authority for President Bush. He has supported every one of President Bush's anti-worker judicial nominees. He opposed efforts to discourage American companies from outsourcing jobs and encourage the creation of jobs here at home. Specter has consistently backed Bush-Cheney budgets that have favored tax cuts for millionaires over investments in job training, education and a host of other human needs facing workers and their families. And he continues to defend administration policies that have led to lost jobs, under-funded schools, skyrocketing health care costs and higher local property taxes. If Senator Specter wanted to do something effective, he'd use his alleged 'clout' with Labor Secretary Chao rather than hold yet another hearing.

"Joe Hoeffel understands how much is at stake for working families in this election, and his 100% voting record with the AFL-CIO shows where his priorities are. Unlike Arlen Specter, he knows we can't afford to continue the current Bush-Cheney policies in Washington . Joe wants to build a future that works for our state and its working families and that's why Pennsylvanians are going to vote for the Kerry-Edwards-Hoeffel ticket rather than Bush-Cheney and Specter."
