As we cope with budget shortfalls and work to move our state forward, it has never been more important that we take a hard look at our spending priorities and the performance of every state agency. We must work to protect vital services--education, health care and public safety---from drastic cuts during fiscal crises like the one we are currently experiencing. During the last session, I supported the State Revenue Stabilization Fund. This fund, a forced savings account for our state, will help to ensure balanced, stable funding for state services in future economic downturns. I also supported legislation to limit the use of expensive outside consultants and better tracking of unpaid taxes.
