Senator Murray's Statement Celebrating Labor Day

Statement

Date: Sept. 4, 2010
Issues: Labor Unions

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement celebrating Labor Day.

"I am proud to join with communities across Washington state as we celebrate Labor Day with parades, picnics, barbecues, and time spent with friends and loved one.

"But as we celebrate, we must not forget that far too many working families across our state continue to struggle in this tough economy. Washington state has the best workers in the world, but so many of them have seen their jobs and life savings disappear due to circumstances beyond their control.

"The fact is that Wall Street's greed and irresponsibility devastated our workers and hurt Main Street businesses across our state. That's why I was so proud to work to pass Wall Street Reform legislation that will hold big banks accountable and make sure taxpayers are never again left holding the bag for Wall Street's mistakes. And I am going to continue fighting to make sure this new law is implemented effectively and our state's workers and small business owners are protected.

"I am also going to continue working to create jobs and rebuild our state's economy. I know our workers want to get back on the job, and I know our small businesses want to expand and add jobs. So I am going to fight for a small business lending fund bill that will allow them to do that. And I am never going to stop fighting to create jobs and opportunities for workers across Washington state.

"Too many workers across Washington state are struggling this Labor Day. But I believe in them, and I am never going to stop fighting to get them back on the job."
