Tells Voters That He Didn't Vote For TARP, Stimulus Saved Money
While in Porterdale Friday for a town hall meeting, Jim Marshall said that he "voted against" the Wall Street bailout and that the national debt would have "doubled" if the "stimulus" bill that he voted for had not been passed. (Sebastien Wee,"Jim Marshall holds town hall meeting in Porterdale," Covington News, 9/1/10) These claims are both completely false. Jim Marshall voted not once, but TWICE for the Wall Street bailout. On top of that, the "stimulus" bill that Marshall voted for added billions to the deficit.
Austin Scott commented Thursday on the story that Marshall told voters, "This shows just how far Jim Marshall will go in his effort to hide his record from the people of the 8th district. This time it is an outright lie. To say that he didn't vote to bail out the Wall Street banks when it is in the public record is unbelievable. To tell voters that the so-called "stimulus" reduced the debt is preposterous."
