Clyburn Marks 45th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

Press Release

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today issued the following statement marking the 45th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid. These programs have provided vital services for American Seniors and families in need. The Affordable Care Act strengthens these programs, extending the solvency of Medicare and expanding access to Medicaid. Also today, the Department of Health and Human Services released an ad featuring actor Andy Griffith, marking the 45th anniversary of Medicare and outlining the improvements made to Medicare as a result of the Affordable Care Act, in advance of Medicare Open Enrollment.

"As we look back on the many millions of Americans that have benefited from the care and security they have received through Medicare and Medicaid, let us also look to the future and work to ensure that these essential programs continue to bring better health and peace of mind to Americans for generations to come. Over the past 45 years, Medicare has provided seniors and people with disabilities with guaranteed and effective care. Thanks to steps taken in the Affordable Care Act, Medicare is now stronger than ever before, currently providing more than 44 million Americans with high quality care and ensuring that the program remains solvent for years to come."
