U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today commended the U.S. Department of Education for recognizing Florida's education system and awarding the state one of the competitive "Race to the Top" school reform grants. The Education Department is awarding more than $3.4 billion dollars today to nine states and Washington, DC.
Senator LeMieux said:
"The credit for Florida's academic achievements is rooted in the reforms initiated by Governor Jeb Bush. His leadership paved the way for student success and I commend the U.S. Department of Education for this recognition. Florida's economy is diversifying into areas requiring strong skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The more we can do now to improve student achievement, the better off our state and nation will be in the future."
