Ileana to BP Executive: Do Not Walk Away from the Keys

Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional delegation and leading opponent of offshore oil drilling, spoke this afternoon with David Nagel, Executive Vice-President of BP America. The Congresswoman urged Mr. Nagel to guarantee all claims offices in the Florida Keys will remain functional and continue to process claims from affected businesses. BP announced last week that its claims process in Monroe County would be under new management.

Said Ros-Lehtinen: "While process has been made in plugging the oil well, it is essential for BP to continue its financial responsibility toward impacted businesses in the Keys. Mr. Nagel states that BP's new claims management for our community would process all valid claims. While the Keys have been spared from oil slicks and tar balls, fishermen and other business owners in my district continue to feel the pinch of a slow summer season."
