One third of our state budget is spent on K-12 education, and our State Constitution declares public education to be the "paramount duty" of state government. Despite this, public schools still need our help. As the parent of two young children who will attend Seattle Public Schools I am personally committed to building a world class education system. As your State Senator, I will work to fully fund K-12 education so that school districts are receiving the funds they need to educate our kids. I support hiring more teachers to reduce class sizes and systemic reforms that will help enable all children to receive a quality education. Further, we must strengthen our investment in our colleges and universities to maintain quality, affordability and accessibility. It is important that students of all ages, whether it is a recent high school graduate or a mid-career person pursuing new skills, can attend quality institutions right here at home.
