Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1586, legislation authorizing $26 billion in new spending as well as $10 billion in new job-killing tax increases on employers:
"At a time when our federal deficit has eclipsed $13 trillion dollars and unemployment lingers near 10%, Congress should not be funneling more money into the failed stimulus bill," said Fleming.
"Families across this country are being forced to tighten their belts and balance their budgets; it's time for government to do the same," continued Fleming. "Further bailing out States only encourages them to rely on the federal government for assistance rather than ensuring they live within their means and cut unnecessary spending. The Democrats' policy of higher taxes and bailouts on the backs of our grandchildren will only continue to push this country further into recession."
