Endorsement a Reversal of 2008, Sign That Tim Murphy's Record is Catching Up with Him

Dan Connolly today received the statewide endorsement from the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO for the 18th Congressional District. This endorsement is a reversal of the AFL-CIO's endorsement two years ago of Tim Murphy and a strong rebuke for Murphy's voting record against the interest of Pennsylvania's working families.

"I am proud that the AFL-CIO has endorsed my campaign and that working families standing with me to bring jobs back to the region, to protect retirement and veterans benefits," said Dan Connolly.

"Tim Murphy is a cheerleader for the Party of No in Washington and it is time to give him his pink slip. He has no agenda to bring jobs back to southwestern Pennsylvania and no clue about how families are suffering," continued Dan Connolly.

"People are starting to wake up to the fact that Tim Murphy is saying one thing in Washington, PA, and doing another thing in Washington, DC. Just this past week Murphy voted with Republican leadership to protect companies that ship American jobs overseas rather than saving the jobs of teachers, fire fighters and police officers. No longer content to simply lock constituents out of his office, Tim Murphy is voting to toss more of them out of work. He has voted against job bills so as not to offend the Republican leaders in Washington and the special interest donors who fund his campaign," added Connolly.

"The people of southwestern Pennsylvania deserve better," concluded Connolly. "And my campaign will deliver that."

The AFLCIO's endorsement puts the 18th Congressional District strongly in play. The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO has not endorsed challengers in Western Pennsylvania in recent years -- neither Congressman Altmire nor Congresswoman Dahlkemper received the statewide endorsement as challengers.

With labor's proven track record of turning out voters, the large number of union households and the Democratic registration advantage in the 18th Congressional District this is a race we will win in November.
