Federal Spending Sprees Will Not Put Americans Back to Work

Statement

Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC-03) voted in opposition to the Senate amendment to H.R. 1586 the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act. After votes, Barrett made the following remarks:

"While there are signs that show our nation's economy is improving, the effects of the recession can still be seen across the nation--especially in South Carolina.

However, deepening our debt will not strengthen our economy or save jobs--it will only endanger our nation's economic recovery while forcing future generations to foot the bill. We need to find ways to get Americans back to work, but more federal spending sprees are not the way to do it."
