Sullivan Says No To Latest Democrat Bailout

Statement

Date: Aug. 10, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John Sullivan voted against the Senate Amendment to H.R. 1586, the so called Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, legislation which imposes massive tax increases on Oklahoma businesses, adds to our already backbreaking federal debt and actually forbids state governments from taking common-sense actions to cut spending or reduce their level of debt. Sullivan offered the following statement after passage of the bill.

"Speaker Pelosi called Congress back to Washington to pass more outrageous stimulus spending that the American people don't want, and our nation cannot afford. This is a prime of example of why the American people have lost faith in their government - this bill isn't about saving teachers jobs, it's about Democrat Members of Congress trying to save their own jobs. The Democrat led Congress is doubling down on failed policy -- they already wasted $1 trillion on President Obama's failed stimulus bill, and now they came back for more of your hard earned money to pass what amounts to yet another deficit raising bailout.

Not only does this bill raise taxes on American businesses to the tune of $9.8 billion, it actually prohibits states from taking responsible actions to address their own budget shortfalls by cutting spending and making other necessary reforms to get out of debt-- that's not only arrogant Washington thinking, it's absurd."
