In his ongoing effort to beef up border security and stem the tide of illegal immigrants coming into this country, Congressman Zack Space welcomed yesterday's vote to provide increased security on the nation's border.
The bill, which was passed by a bipartisan voice vote, will provide 1000 new border patrol agents to police the border.
"Nothing we do to fight illegal immigration will ultimately be successful if we don't secure the border. We have an emergency on our border. Every day, illegal immigrants and drugs enter our country across a border that is not nearly secure enough to stop them," Space said.
"This bill will beef up our security forces and provide the resources that our Border Patrol agents need to help plug the holes in our border."
"This bill is a first step toward making it impossible to enter our country illegally. Illegal immigration poses a threat to our national security and hurts American workers. We need to do everything we can to stem the tide of illegal immigrants coming into this country," Space continued.
The bill includes:
* $176 million for 1,000 new Border Patrol agents to form a "strike force" to be deployed at most-needed areas
* $50 million for 250 new ICE personnel, including special agents, intelligence analysts and support personnel
* $34 million for Drug Enforcement Administration agents along the border
* $32 million to deploy unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance drones
