U.S. Senator George LeMieux (R-FL) today encouraged Floridians and all summer vacationers alike to visit Florida's beaches. Due to the poor economy, and the recent oil spill, Florida has suffered a decline in tourism traffic.
"Americans and international tourists need to know our beaches are still beautiful and open for business," said LeMieux. "Sarasota Beach is just one of our great state's beautiful landscapes and I want to encourage people to come visit. Florida is beautiful, open for business and ready to welcome visitors."
BACKGROUND: From the Dr. Beach Web site: Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida "With some of the finest, whitest sand in the world, this beach attracts sand collectors from all over. Siesta Beach has clear, warm waters that serve for ideal swimming. The beach is hundreds of yards wide in the shape of a crescent, due to anchoring of onshore rocks to the north and a unique underwater formation of coral rock and caves, providing for great snorkeling and scuba diving. This beach is great for volleyball and other types of recreational fitness."
