Question-
What is your philosophy on taxes?
Limited Government
"It is indeed time tested and proven that a man can do better for himself with his money than the government can do for him with his money. The only "fix" or suggestions our legislature and or Nation have for budget deficits are to raise taxes. They may call them "fees" etc. but it comes down to cost that is ultimately passed on to the tax payer. THIS IS NOT THE WAY THAT IT SHOULD BE DONE AND IT'S NOT THE WAY I'M GOING TO DO IT. The Government is at a stopping point in my book. We need no more government. As an entrepreneur on a daily basis I see small business trying to start and comply with all the regulations of government roadblocks and it's overwhelming. As we know in health care nationally the federal government is trying to usurp the state powers of life and liberty that we have here in Alabama and are even trying to decide our health care fate. I want to take this head on if I'm elected to make it a constitutional that in Alabama our citizens do not have mandated health care by the government of any kind. Smaller government is better government."
Property Tax-
"As a real estate attorney and developer I understand property tax is necessary in the State. I also understand the property tax in our State is significantly lower than most other states. That is too is good for Alabama, however, the methods in which the property tax is assessed and the methods to which it is appraised is not the best and most efficient. I support doing away with annual assessment and appraisal of property and making it at least a four year minimum reappraisal. This will keep local properties and state property tax from inching up at 3-8% increments a year and make them do it every four years. In turn, this will also take the burden off the state and off the Court system for tax contests; due to the fact that once it's proven lower it will remain lower for a whole year period. As of currently Jefferson County is backlogged in tax appeal cases to the point that people can't refinance their homes because they don't want to pay their taxes until their dispute is settled. This is a problem. Let's keep property tax in Alabama where they need to be and remain one of the lowest places to live in the Country. This is good for Alabamians."
