Speaking of the U.S. Constitution, another important issue that I've worked hard on at the Colorado legislature is to protect from federal encroachment on states' rights. HB 1365 mentioned above was also principally about protecting Colorado's right to determine its own air quality program rather than having it mandated by the federal EPA.
I've strongly supported a state designed and driven health care program rather than the federal plan recently passed in Washington, D.C., as the federal plan doesn't address the real problems in health care and costs way more than Colorado and its citizens can pay for!
Finally, I support a state's right to pass its own legislation to address illegal immigration issues like Colorado did in 2006 and Arizona has done in 2010. If the federal government won't do its job, the states must move forward on their own.
