UDALL REACTS TO RESIGNATION OF CIA DIRECTOR GEORGE TENET
(Washington, D.C.) - Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) released the following statement in reaction to the resignation of Central Intelligence Agency Director George Tenet:
"CIA Director George Tenet's resignation came as a surprise to me. Although the reasons for his resignation are unclear, I hope he is not the designated fall guy for the intelligence and diplomatic failures that might more properly be laid upon other shoulders, including Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and other Bush administration officials.
"I am hopeful that President Bush will use Mr. Tenet's resignation as an opportunity to bring needed reform to the CIA, and that he appoints a new director who will bring greater credibility and expertise to the agency. The security of our nation is too important, and we need a CIA director who will be above politics and will work with both sides of the aisle to secure America's borders, to implement foreign policy that is based on sound intelligence and that protects our interests abroad, and America's reputation in the international community."
