U.S. Sen. David Vitter today made the following statement after his vote to oppose the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court:

"I voted against Solicitor General Kagan because her approach to the law throughout her career strongly suggests that she will try to legislate from the bench," said Vitter. "Her confirmation hearings did nothing to ease my deep concerns about her past statements and actions hostile to the right to life, the Second Amendment and military recruiting on college campuses. Others have noted that her nomination is President Obama's attempt to appoint someone just like himself to the bench, and that unfortunately appears to be the case."
