Georgia is one of the easiest states in the nation in which to initiate a foreclosure. As a result, Georgia is one of the leading states in the nation in percentage of foreclosures. We need to laws that encourage banks to work with homeowners to allow them to stay in their homes. A foreclosed home hurts the banks, which loses its money, hurts the community because remaining owners are sitting next to vacant homes, and hurts the family that loses their home. Powder Springs and Austell, which are in the 33rd District, had double the rate of foreclosure than the state of Georgia in the month of April. We can do better.
