Securing the future for Michigan's students.
Brian Calley views education as a top priority for Michigan. He has consistently voted to appropriate over half of all state tax dollars to educating our children and young adults. Even so, the total money available to run government has changed. All government services, including education, must adjust to the new economic reality we face.
He is deeply concerned with the current "one size fits all" mentality being forced upon schools. He has sponsored legislation to implement a curriculum system that recognizes the flexibility needed to prepare kids for a wide variety of jobs and interests.
When the need arose, Brian even took on his own party leadership. Like when he opposed the School Aid Fund transfer to the General Fund. Or when he opposed elimination of certain special education line items.
Brian is a product of the Michigan public education system. His kids are part of the Michigan public education system. Michigan kids will remain a top priority for him.
