Education is the Issue Area of greatest interest and concern for me. Appropriate and accessible educational opportunities are keys for not only developing civil society but also the building blocks to where our future growth and advancement comes from. Because of the budget crisis funding for low-performing school and poor communities has been under siege. Despite the efforts to roll-back education funding in Sacramento, working with local schools we successfully secured $129 million over the next seven in additional funding for struggling schools in our district. Additionally, I helped secured college scholarships for high school students as well as assistance for English learners in our high schools.
