In 2008, the Georgia legislature passed and the Governor signed SB 276. This bill removed automobile insurance that was above the mandatory minimum from "prior approval" and placed it in "file and use". This move was opposed by the current Insurance Commissioner because he feared that the insurance companies would take advantage of consumers, but the opposite has proven to be true. Free enterprise, capitalism, and competition have delivered lower cost auto insurance to Georgia consumers. When you watch TV, you see commercial after commercial advertising the savings you can realize by switching to their company. Competition does work and I believe in the free market.
