It is critical that we invest in tomorrow's workforce so our displaced workers and children have the skills they need to compete in the 21st-century economy and to stem the exodus of our skilled workforce and college students to other states. We must act on these problems immediately on several levels. We can start by:
* Reforming our No Worker Left Behind initiative to make sure the training our displaced workers receive lands them a job rather than just a new skill.
* Working with our colleges and universities to make sure they are teaching our students the skills they will need to compete in the 21st-century economy.
* Restoring Michigan's Promise Scholarship by making them forgivable loans if the recipients stay and work in Michigan after graduation.
* Expand universal free pre-kindergarten education.
