Stabenow: Senate Finally Approves Extension of Unemployment Benefits

Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) made the following statement after the Senate agreed on an extension of unemployment benefits through November 30, 2010. The benefits will be retroactive.

"This has been a long and difficult fight for the thousands of people who are on unemployment who wake up in the morning and go to sleep at night with a pit in their stomach, worried about how they are going to keep providing for their families. For many families, today's vote is a lifeline. Thanks to the votes of two Republicans and the new Senator from West Virginia, we can stop the political games and move on to the most important task at hand -- creating jobs and getting our economy moving again."
