Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, comments on her learning that the Miami VA did not inform 79 veterans that they were potentially at risk from serious, possibly life threatening infections from previous endoscopic procedures at the facility.
Ros-Lehtinen said: "I'm worried that this terrible error could be a reflection on the quality of care that our South Florida veterans need and deserve. For many months, I have heard from local and national VA officials over and over again that this horrible series of mistakes were flukes and that the health care that veterans receive is of the highest quality but this latest fiasco puts those assurances in doubt. I will ask the Miami VA officials for an update on what is being done to correct this tragic situation and prevent future errors. The veterans who depend on our local VA deserve and have earned the most professional treatment possible. It is almost surreal that the problems continue unabated."
