Camp Reaction to Supreme Court Ruling on Chicago Gun Ban

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

oday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Second Amendment provides all Americans the right to bear arms when it struck down a ban on gun ownership in place in Chicago.

U.S. Rep. Dave Camp, R-MI, said, "I have long believed the right to bear arms is a fundamental right upon which this nation was founded. I am pleased to see the Supreme Court affirm the Second Amendment and preserve this right for future generations."

Camp joined 58 Senators and 251 Representatives in filing an amicus curiae brief in this case last year that asked the Supreme Court to hold the Second Amendment applicable to the states through the 14th Amendment, which the Supreme Court ultimately agreed with.
