Carly Fiorina Issues Statement on Unemployment Rate

Statement

Date: July 2, 2010
Location: Sacramento, CA

U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina today issued the following statement in response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report released this morning showing that the economy shed 125,000 jobs in May:

"The loss of 125,000 jobs last month and the less-than-robust growth in private-sector hiring together underscore the fact that the economic "stimulus' plan championed by Democrats like Barbara Boxer has not delivered on its fundamental promise: creating jobs. And though the downtick in the unemployment rate represents a step in the right direction, it occurred as the result of a shrinking labor force -- not because of real gains in employment. In fact, our country has lost 7.9 million private-sector jobs since the start of the recession in December 2007.

"Much like we're seeing in the housing sector, today's jobs report highlights the fact that big-government policies do not stimulate the kind of sustained, long-term growth our economy needs in order to experience a real recovery. Yet Barbara Boxer continues to help take our nation down the path toward economic stagnation by insisting on pursuing these wrongheaded policies.

"Barbara Boxer promised the people of California "help and hope,' but we have gotten neither. Instead, we have gotten higher taxes, higher debt and a higher deficit. This is completely unacceptable, and it is clearly time for her to go."
