Barrett: H.R. 4173 Will Restrict Economic Growth and Hinder American Prosperity

Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC-03) voted against H.R. 4173 the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010. After the vote, Barrett made the following remarks:

"When I initially voted against this legislation last December, it was abundantly clear that this bill was filled with wrongheaded and overreaching policies. When H.R. 4173 was sent to conference, congressional Democrats had a chance to make corrections to this misguided piece of legislation. Unfortunately, they only made it worse by tacking on additional burdens that will further restrict economic growth and American prosperity.

The Democratic majority may claim this bill will give added protection to the American people, but the truth is it won't. Real consumer protection focuses on consumer choice, competitive markets and production innovation--not growing government, rationing credit or imposing more taxes on American families and small businesses."
