Standing up for Main Street Ohioans who have been unfairly hit by reckless and irresponsible Wall Street institutions, U.S. Rep. Zack Space today voted for the bipartisan Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act -- legislation that deals with the United States' financial crisis quickly and fairly -- while preserving the community banks that serve as the engines of our economy.
"Wall Street has been overrun with greed and irresponsibility, and today we have taken the economy back for every working and middle class Ohioan," said Space. "Consumers on Main Streets across our region have felt this crisis too hard and for too long, and they've seen why this reform is necessary. We have a duty to take every step necessary to ensure that this financial crisis, caused by Wall Street, is stopped in its tracks and never allowed to happen again."
"Without a doubt, this bipartisan bill is about standing in strong solidarity with Main Streets across Ohio, not with the irresponsible Wall Street institutions that have caused the problem," Space continued.
The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act targets the risky actions practiced by reckless Wall Street institutions that led to a meltdown in the financial services sector, affecting banks nationwide. Congressman Space fought to ensure that this legislation targeted the real root of the problem -- Wall Street -- and not small and community banks.
Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He has been working to restore integrity to the office, and to create the conditions to bring new industry and jobs to Ohio. Recently, Congressman Space launched FIGHTING TO RENEW OHIO, the second phase of his plan to provide long-term economic growth in Ohio's 18th Congressional District.
