This week Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) was named the 2010 Free Enterprise Legislator of the Year by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for his public service and work to uphold the principles of full and open competition and the advancement of the free-market system.
Congressman Cantor made the following statement in receiving the award:
"Our country was founded on the principles of limited government and free market ideals that foster economic growth. Today our nation is at a crossroads -- our country needs to give its entrepreneurs and small businesspeople the tools to succeed, especially during this time of high unemployment and uncertainty. The choices we make today, will determine the kind of country we leave for our children tomorrow and that is why I will continue to fight to create an environment that offers unlimited opportunity."
2010 ABC National Chairman Jim Elmer, founder and president of the James W. Elmer Construction Co., Spokane, Washington presented the award:
"Congressman Cantor has consistently backed legislation that strengthens the U.S. economy and provides a level playing field for the nation's small business community. He is an ardent supporter of the merit shop construction industry and the principles of free enterprise, and for that we are grateful."
