Arizona is still in the grips of a massive recession. Just over half of Arizona homeowners owe more on their homes than those homes are currently worth. In Maricopa County, nearly three in four homeowners are "underwater."
The cost of tuition continues to skyrocket while salaries are reduced, and Arizonans continue to lose jobs. The opportunities that John McCain's generation benefited from do not exist for young people today. Arizona's young people are experiencing record-high unemployment and underemployment.
Arizonans are either looking for work or looking over their shoulders at the possibility of reduced hours, reduced benefits, reduced wages, or losing their jobs altogether. Now is the time to invest in tax credits and tax break programs that create jobs in Arizona. Now is the time to expand programs that provide incentives to employers to make new hires. Now is the time to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure -- highways, bridges, water systems. Now is the time to educate our children and train our workforce to compete so that we can maintain long-term economic growth in Arizona.
Arizona families can't wait. Arizona needs a U.S. Senator fighting to put Arizonans back to work now.
