The past few years have created a crisis in our state, region and nation. The financial collapse, the bailouts, the so-called stimulus and spiraling unemployment have proven that our leaders in Washington are out of touch with the day-to-day concerns of regular folks here in Southwest Georgia.
It's one thing to realize and inventory the problems we face; that's the easy part. The hard part is offering real solutions. I know that the heart of the solution lies in the hard-working spirit of everyday Americans. That spirit that knows that if we put our heads down and work hard, with God at our side, we can overcome any obstacle. It has been true for over 200 years, since the founding of our nation.
We have all faced trials in our lives and Americans don't look to Washington to tell us what to do. What we need is for Washington to get out of our way and let us get about the business of getting our economy moving again. Many Americans are worried and rightly so. They are worried about what Washington will do next. We understand we can't keep spending our children's and grand-children's money with no end in sight.
That's why in Congress I will support a Balanced Budget Amendment to once and for all get our fiscal house in order and start paying down our debt. I will also support the Fair Tax. This reform will create a tidal wave of positive economic activity and get the IRS out of our lives for good.
