Letter

Date: June 16, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) sent a letter today to Governor Pat Quinn requesting he give every give every possible consideration to pursue additional disaster assistance.

"When I visited Elmwood, Illinois after the storm, economic injury was abundantly apparent, with almost their entire business district severely affected," Schock stated in the letter. "It is my sincere hope that all available avenues are pursued in an effort to make sure that the folks most affected by the recent storms in Illinois are safe, secure and are able to recover as rapidly and as successfully as possible. "

Schock's letter follows:

June 16, 2010

The Honorable Pat Quinn
Governor of the State of Illinois
Office of the Governor
207 Statehouse
Springfield, IL 62706

Dear Governor Quinn,

Two of the five counties that received state disaster declarations on June 7, 2010 are located wholly within the 18th Congressional District, Peoria and Putnam. Just days earlier, 15 tornadoes cut a path through Central and North Central Illinois, wreaking havoc on thousands of people, especially homeowners and business owners. Physical, emotional and financial recovery is ongoing.

I am writing to request additional support for these areas. I understand that preliminary damage assessments (PDAs) are ongoing today. I am writing to urge you to give every possible consideration to pursue whatever type of additional disaster declaration might be made available to you, whether through the Small Business Administration (SBA) and/or Individual Assistance and/or Public Assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

When I visited Elmwood, Illinois after the storm, economic injury was abundantly apparent, with almost their entire business district severely affected. Some business owners will struggle greatly to recoup enough to rebuild in this community of 2,000 residents. Whatever help can be afforded to them should rightfully be made available as quickly as possible.

It is my sincere hope that all available avenues are pursued in an effort to make sure that the folks most affected by the recent storms in Illinois are safe, secure and are able to recover as rapidly and as successfully as possible.

Thank you for your timely consideration of this important request. I stand ready to assist you with this measure in any way that is appropriate.

Sincerely,

Aaron Schock
Member of Congress
