My father served the Western Kentucky community as a doctor for over 35 years, delivering literally thousands of babies. Now, my older brother is following in his footsteps. Given my family background, and my position on the House Health and Welfare Committee, healthcare is an issue that is of the utmost importance to me.
That's why I believe, as a matter of principle, the people of Kentucky should have the freedom to choose the doctor, hospital, plan, and medications that are right for them -- plain and simple. Decisions affecting your health shouldn't be made by some distant corporate health insurance company. We cannot wait any longer to re-establish and strengthen the doctor-patient relationship and improve healthcare for all of Kentucky.
- Our first healthcare priority should be prevention rather than
treatment, cures rather than maintenance, quality rather than just
delivery.
- Every man, woman, and child has a right to a hassle-free
healthcare experience. Period. Regardless of age, race, or income,
every Kentuckian deserves healthcare that is both accessible AND
affordable.
- Everyone has a role to play in finding health solutions: health
insurance companies, state government, and individuals.
Ultimately, healthcare should be about patient choice and control. It should be about having healthcare services that are accessible, affordable, and more convenient, so that they will be there when you need them most.
