Statement in Response to Comptroller's Further Attacks
AUSTIN - The following statement was released this afternoon by Kathy Walt, press secretary to Gov. Rick Perry, in response to the Comptroller's further attacks on Gov. Rick Perry's comprehensive Educational Excellence and Property Tax Relief Plan.
"Once again, the comptroller's rhetoric continues to grow meaner as her grasp of policy matters grows leaner.
"Her doomsday projections appear to be based on fuzzy math. As one example, she incorrectly overcharges the state by $2.88 billion a biennium to eliminate Robin Hood.
"Legislators undoubtedly will have difficulty determining what they can believe from an official who - among other miscounts - missed the 2003 revenue shortfall estimate by 100 percent, significantly underestimated current sales tax revenues, and missed her own tax amnesty revenue estimates by 658 percent.
"Throwing rocks is easy, but where are the comptroller's constructive suggestions on how to improve educational excellence and provide property tax relief? The governor believes legislators need and want stability in revenue estimates, not wildly unstable, consistently unreliable and politically-motivated number-crunching."
