Keeping our economy strong through creating more jobs, keeping Pennsylvania's tax and regulatory climate fair, and helping small business has always been a top priority of mine. I have spoken out for small government that taxes less and have been awarded the "Guardian of Small Business" award from the National Federal of Independent Business.
I have also focused attention on promoting economic development through tourism in our community and in the southeastern region of the state. As former Chairman of the House Tourism Committee, I worked to keep tourism growing as the state's second-largest industry.
Tourism means jobs, money and tax revenue for Montgomery County. An estimated 110 million visitors spent $28 billion in Pennsylvania in 2007. Tourism supports over 609,000 jobs in Pennsylvania with a $18billion payroll and $6.2 billion in tax revenue for federal, state and local governments.
I have always approached this issue as one too important to leave to politics, which is why I made it a point to work with Governor Ed Rendell now and when he was Mayor of Philadelphia on his efforts to bring visitors and new attractions to benefit the entire region
