State Senator Steve Lathrop filed today for re-election to his second term in the Nebraska Legislature. Lathrop represents District 12, which includes the communities of Ralston and Millard and neighborhoods in southwest Omaha.
Lathrop will hold a campaign kick-off event on Tuesday, February 9th at 7pm. The event will be held at Kennedy's Irish Pub and Grille, 72nd and Q Streets in Ralston and is open to the public.
During his first term in office, Lathrop voted for the largest tax relief package in Nebraska history and introduced legislation to crack down on employers hiring illegal immigrants. He also passed legislation that has led to increased investment in wind energy through the development of new wind energy projects, worked to provide additional protections for consumers from the threat of identity theft, and led the way in finding a compromise on the issue of recreational liabilities for local governments, which has allowed cities and other entities to continue to operate various recreational activities, such as skate parks.
Lathrop has been a leader on issues impacting individuals with a
developmental disability, and has earned praise for his work as the Chair of the Developmental Disabilities Special Investigative Committee and his efforts to reduce the waiting list for those individuals who require much needed services.
In the Legislature, Senator Lathrop currently serves as Chair of the Business and Labor Committee and Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee. He also serves on the Urban Affairs, Rules and Committee on Committees.
