I was proud to be part of the historic budget reductions during the recent Special Session of the 101st Legislature in November of 2009. We reduced our budget in a responsible way without cutting essential services and programs. Most importantly, we did it without raising taxes on families and small businesses.
Many state departments, agencies and programs provide critical services to the citizens of Nebraska. However, we must all recognize the financial crisis we are in, and unite to be accountable for every public dollar. When creating budgets for our state agencies, we must carefully analyze how our money is being spent and whether the taxpayer is receiving the optimum return on their investment.
The economic climate indicates Nebraska state government will have to further reduce the budget. I am committed to doing so without raising taxes. I will work with other State Senators to do away with duplicate services, find new efficiencies in operation, eliminate any waste fraud and or abuse.
