As we prepare for the next legislative session, one of the major issues will be tax reform. Burke is a proud member of the Tax Modernization Committee that was formed last summer to address this issue. During his first term, Burke supported a bill that cut taxes for working families, but also opposed bills that would have completely eliminated state income taxes by erasing sales tax exemptions because they would have hurt small businesses and our public school system. It is this measured and thoughtful approach to public policy that will continue to drive Burke's public service during his second term.
Burke has heard from many Nebraska seniors who are struggling to pay the property taxes on their homes. Some are receiving Meals on Wheels to get the food and nutrition they need. He has also heard from working families who are also struggling to make ends meet. That is why Burke will fight for solutions to high property taxes and crime with tax relief and affordable housing.
