Unemployment is at 20 year highs, Iowans are losing their jobs and their homes, and our taxes and fees keep going up. When I am elected Secretary of State I will be a "Pro Jobs" Secretary of State. As a "Pro Jobs" Secretary of State I will work to implement the following 3 point plan to create and protect Jobs and to strengthen Small Business.
1. BE AN ADVOCATE FOR IOWA JOBS AND BUSINESS
In today's economy small business owners are forced to deal with increasing healthcare costs, higher taxes, and unfair regulations and government policies that pick winners and losers. Iowa needs a "Pro Jobs" Secretary of State who will advocate for business friendly laws. When I'm elected Secretary of State I am committed to using the people's office as a bully pulpit for advocating on behalf of businesses and jobs because a strong business environment is a strong jobs environment. I will not limit myself to just processing paperwork on behalf of our businesses, I will stand beside them advocating for those things that allow them to grow and employ more Iowans.
2. STREAMLINE CORPORATE FILINGS
Currently Iowa corporations are able to fax their initial corporate filing to the Secretary of State, but they are not able to file them electronically. When I am elected Secretary of State I will streamline the filing process for corporations to submit all of their documentation electronically through PDF and pay electronically, whether they are filing for the first time, amending their documentation, or paying related fees.
I have heard many times that "illegals only do the jobs that Americans won't." This is a not true. Unemployment is at 20 year highs all over the country, including Iowa. Jobs held by illegal immigrants are jobs that Iowans want and need. As Secretary of State I will work to incorporate the Federal Employment Verification System also known as "E-Verify" into the Secretary of State website, to allow Iowa businesses to verify and ensure their workforce is legal. As Secretary of State I will create electronic educational tools and multi-media webinars to allow small businesses to learn how to use these tools. This will help educate Iowa businesses and help put more Iowans to work.
