Gibbs Files Elections Complaint

Press Release

Location: Lakeville, OH

State Senator Bob Gibbs, Republican Candidate for OH-18 Congressional District, today filed a formal complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission against Congressman Zack Space for false statements in a recent television attack advertisement.

"Congressman Space put an ad on TV that makes several totally false statements," said Gibbs. "The voters of this district deserve better than lies and misleading statements."

The Gibbs campaign has requested that Congressman Space pull the false advertisement from the air as it is illegal under Ohio law to make false statements about a candidate.

"As a member of Congress and a lawyer, Zack Space should understand Ohio law when it comes to false statements," stated Gibbs.

The Space ad states that Gibbs "voted himself a pay raise", when in reality, the Ohio Legislative Service Commission has confirmed that the pay raise legislation was voted on before Gibbs was even a member of the General Assembly.

The ad continues to accuse Gibbs of not giving "tax breaks to families," however Senator Gibbs co-authored the largest tax cut in state history with the 21% reduction of the personal income tax. This tax break provided relief to every Ohioan. Senator Gibbs has also voted for expanding the Homestead Tax exemption for seniors.
