Governor Parkinson Lobbies Fellow Governors to Preserve Big XII

Statement

Date: June 8, 2010

Today Governor Mark Parkinson contacted Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman to discuss the importance of keeping the Big XII Conference together.

"A regional partnership between our universities is essential in facilitating the schools' economic opportunities, which benefit our students and our state. Maintaining the Big XII Conference is, therefore, of great importance to KU and K-State, and I will do all that I can as governor to help in this effort," said Parkinson.

"I appreciate Governor Nixon and Governor Heineman's attention to this matter and for their productive conversations with me. While no final decisions have been made, I remain hopeful that our neighbors will recognize the significance of our continued cooperation and opportunities for success through alliance."
