Barrett: Massive Deficit Increases and Spending Sprees Will Not Create More American Jobs-It Will Destry Them

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman J. Gresham Barrett (SC-03) voted against legislation that will increase spending by $102 billion and raise the deficit by $52.4 billion. After voting against H.R. 4213, Barrett made the following remarks:

"I voted against H.R. 4213 because this bill will not create jobs--it will destroy them. Not only does this legislation increase the deficit by a staggering $134 billion, it includes over $47.8 billion in new and permanent tax increases.

Democrats claim they want to focus on job creation. However, we cannot successfully create private sector jobs if Washington bureaucrats continue to cripple small businesses with new, burdensome taxes. If we want to put Americans back to work, we must stop the spending sprees and focus on a fiscally responsible approach to reducing our unemployment rate."
