Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, today commented on the U.S. Treasury report that shows U.S. national debt has reached $13 trillion for the first time in history.
"Thirteen is certainly an unlucky number, especially for our children and grandchildren who will be left to dig out of trillions of dollars worth of debt. The situation will only grow increasingly dire, as the Obama Administration and the Democratic Congress have put the country on a path to double today's national debt burden by 2020. This dangerous and unsustainable level of debt cannot continue without bankrupting our country, and I urge the majority to slow its explosion of spending and borrowing before it is too late."
