Following today's news that the Babcox & Wilcox Investment Company (B&W) and Toshiba Corporation have reached an agreement to invest $200 million in USEC, U.S. Rep. Zack Space issued the following statement:
"Today's announcement is great news for USEC, its Piketon facility, and job-seeking Ohioans across our region," Space said. "Nothing is more important to me than creating and protecting Ohio jobs, and I'm pleased to hear that USEC will continue to play a key role in Ohio's economy."
USEC has been seeking a federal loan guarantee for its American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, which, if successful, could create nearly 8,000 U.S. jobs during the peak of construction. Nearly half of these jobs are expected to be located in Ohio. Under today's agreement, Toshiba and B&W will each invest $100 million in USEC, strengthening the corporation's financial base as a condition for the loan guarantee.
Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He has been working to restore integrity to the office, and to create the conditions to bring new industry and jobs to Ohio. Recently, Congressman Space launched FIGHTING TO RENEW OHIO, the second phase of his plan to provide long-term economic growth in Ohio's 18th Congressional District.
