Vows to work full time to increase transparency
Republican Lieutenant Governor candidate Mark Darr today issued the following statement in response to a reported misuse of taxpayer money.
"Taxpayers should be furious at the gross misuse of money that happens throughout Arkansas government. Just yesterday we learned that taxpayers picked up the bill for more than $14,000.00 in fuel for the Land Commissioner's state-provided vehicles and excessive spending for several out-of-state conferences was also funded by taxpayers. Attending a three day conference but staying for seven days and charging it to the taxpayer is unacceptable.
My opponent has been in the legislature for fourteen years. As a member of the Joint Budget Committee, he has had many opportunities to work to increase accountability and transparency but instead chose to become one of the insiders and turn a blind eye to taxpayer needs.
I promise to be a full-time Lieutenant Governor and a watchdog for the taxpayers because they deserve better. Transparency is badly needed in Arkansas government. It is time to show everyone how their money is being used which is why I have proposed an online checkbook to show where every dollar of your money is being spent which will curb wasteful spending and hold all elected officials accountable."
