Mark Udall, a member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement in honor of service members this Memorial Day, May 31, 2010:
"As we gather together with our friends and families this weekend, we should remember to pause and thank everyone who has served in our Armed Forces. These brave men and women have worked to keep America safe at home and abroad. They have fought to protect our country, and many have sacrificed their lives to keep America safe and ensure that new generations of Americans can continue to enjoy their liberty.
"In the past few weeks, I have spoken to the needs of the wounded warriors serving at Fort Carson, commended the efforts of the service members competing in the Warrior Games, visited with a Colorado National Guard unit deploying to Iraq, and awarded the Congressional Gold Medal to a Coloradan who served with the Woman Airforce Service Pilots during World War II. Each of these experiences has reminded me of the sacrifices that all of our men and women in uniform have made to serve their country. I have a deep respect for their service, and I am honored that they have shared their experiences with me.
"This Memorial Day, I encourage everyone to find a way to thank those who have given so much in service to their country. America's service members deserve our gratitude, and this Monday we will be sure to honor them."
