Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson today was named a winner of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's "Spirit of Enterprise" award for his record on key votes affecting the nation's business climate.

"The Chamber applauds Rep. Johnson for supporting the private sector and job growth through these difficult times," said Tom Donohue, Chamber president and CEO. "He has demonstrated great courage and we commend him."

Senators and Representatives who gain a rating of at least 70 percent on key business votes receive the Spirit of Enterprise award. Rep. Johnson had a cumulative score of 80 percent.

"I am honored that the Chamber recognizes the efforts on behalf of my colleagues and me to take actions we feel are critical to protect jobs and bolster private enterprise," Rep. Johnson said. "The Chamber is the primary institution in this country advocating on behalf of small business people, the people who are the engines, the risk-takers and the genius of our economy. We neglect them at our peril."

The other member of the Illinois delegation recognized by the Chamber are U.S. Reps. Peter Roskam, Mark Kirk, Judy Biggert, Donald Manzullo, Aaron Schock and John Shimkus.
